Some sessions are extra special because they tell a story that comes full circle – and Gryff Graves’ senior session was exactly that.
I first met Gryff’s mom in 2024 when she booked me to photograph her Doctorate celebration. At the time, Gryff was a junior at Petal High School. Now, it was finally his turn to step in front of the camera and be celebrated during one of the most exciting seasons of his life.
For his senior session, Gryff chose two distinct outfits, each showcasing a different side of his personality. His first look was a sharp, classic suit that brought confidence, maturity, and a timeless feel to his portraits. For his second look, he switched into a more relaxed outfit featuring a casual sweater paired with jeans, creating images that felt effortless, natural, and true to who he is.
This balance between classic and casual is one of my favorite ways to create a well-rounded senior gallery. It allows seniors to have polished images perfect for announcements and wall art, while also capturing the laid-back moments that reflect their everyday style.

We photographed Gryff’s session in downtown Hattiesburg, a location that never goes out of style. The clean lines, historic architecture, and urban textures provided the perfect setting for both of his looks. Downtown locations offer versatility and a timeless aesthetic, making them ideal for seniors who want photos they’ll still love years from now.
For this session, I photographed exclusively with my Canon 7D Mark II, shooting in manual mode to maintain full creative control over lighting and exposure. I chose to work with natural light only, without using any external flash. This approach allowed the images to feel clean, authentic, and true to the environment, enhancing the classic feel of the session.
This session was inspired by timeless storytelling and meaningful connections. Being able to photograph Gryff after working with his mom just a year prior made the experience especially meaningful. Sessions like this highlight why senior portraits are about more than just photos—they’re about capturing milestones, growth, and moments that families will look back on for years to come.
Visually, the goal was to create images that felt confident, classic, and authentic. By pairing intentional outfit choices with a timeless location and natural light, Gryff’s session reflects both who he is now and the exciting future ahead of him.

One of the biggest takeaways from Gryff’s senior session is the value of incorporating both classic and casual looks. When done intentionally, this balance tells a fuller story—one that feels polished yet personal, timeless yet current.
Gryff’s session is a perfect example of how thoughtful styling, a meaningful location, and a relaxed approach can come together to create senior portraits that truly stand the test of time.
