As Isabella Strong prepares to walk across the stage this May to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communication with an emphasis in Advertising from The University of Southern Mississippi, she reflects on a college journey filled with growth, passion, and perseverance. Isabella’s story is one of overcoming challenges, embracing self-growth, and holding onto her faith, and now, she’s ready to take the next steps into the real world.

A Passion for Digital Marketing and Social Media Content Creation

Isabella’s love for digital marketing and social media content creation is what first sparked her decision to pursue a degree in Strategic Communication. From the moment she discovered her passion for advertising and marketing, Isabella knew she wanted to build a career that combined creativity with the power of digital platforms.

Her coursework and experiences at USM have allowed her to dive deep into the world of communication, where she honed her skills and developed a deeper understanding of how strategic messaging can influence and inspire others. The world of advertising and digital marketing is ever-evolving, and Isabella’s enthusiasm for staying ahead of the curve has shaped her into a well-rounded and determined professional.

Accomplishments and Growth

When Isabella looks back at her time at USM, she is most proud of the obstacles she overcame and the personal growth she experienced along the way. College is never easy, and for Isabella, it wasn’t just about earning a degree – it was about becoming a woman who was stronger, more resilient, and more confident in herself. Through every challenge and every triumph, she has emerged as someone who values the journey just as much as the destination.

One of her proudest accomplishments came from balancing her studies with her love of dance. Isabella danced on every team she was a part of throughout her college journey, from the Perkettes at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) to the Prowlers at the University of South Alabama, and finally, the Dixie Darlings at USM. For Isabella, dancing at halftime during football games was a cherished memory that will stay with her forever.

Her role in the Dixie Darlings was a defining moment of her college experience. “The first time strutting out on the field as a Dixie Darling and performing at halftime every game is a moment I’ll never forget,” she says. For her, it was more than just a performance – it was an affirmation that she was right where she was meant to be.

Looking Ahead: Graduate School and Professional Pursuits

As she graduates, Isabella is looking ahead with excitement and anticipation. She plans to continue her education by pursuing her MBA with a focus on marketing. Isabella believes that earning her MBA will not only help her advance her career but also equip her with the tools to make a meaningful impact in the world of digital marketing and advertising.

In addition to her academic goals, Isabella has big dreams on the professional front. She hopes to join an NBA or NFL dance team, continuing to pursue her love for dance on a professional level. Whether it’s a full-time job in marketing or performing on the big stage, Isabella is determined to give her all to whatever comes next.

Embracing Change with Faith and Trust

Like any graduate, Isabella has a mix of excitement and nerves about what the future holds. “I’m most excited (or nervous) about is adjusting to real-world life and figuring out where I’m supposed to end up,” she says. But one thing that keeps her grounded is her unwavering trust in God’s plan. She believes that everything happens for a reason, and she’s confident that God’s timing will guide her toward the right opportunities.

Isabella’s faith has been a constant source of strength for her throughout her college years. The quote that has gotten her through the last five years is one that perfectly embodies her journey: “God is within her, she will not fail.” – Psalm 46:5. This scripture has reminded her that even in times of uncertainty, she is not alone.

A Message to Her Freshman-Year Self

If Isabella could give advice to her freshman-year self, it would be simple yet profound: “Trust in God’s plan and timing through any obstacle you face and stand strong, but most importantly, give yourself grace through the changes in life through college, and enjoy every single moment because it flies by so fast! You will figure it out!”

Her journey has not been easy, but it has been filled with incredible moments of growth, learning, and discovery. And now, as she prepares for the next chapter, she does so with a heart full of gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead.

Leaving a Legacy of Kindness and Strength

As Isabella reflects on what she hopes people will remember most about her, it’s not her accomplishments or accolades. Instead, she wants to be remembered for the kindness and beauty that comes from within. “I always go above and beyond for the people around me,” she says. “I want people to remember me for my kindness.”

Her time at USM has been a reflection of who she is as a person – hardworking, strong, and a leader. Whether she was dancing at halftime or working on a project for her degree, Isabella always gave her best. Her personality, described as goofy, hardworking, and strong, made an impact on everyone she met.

Her Style and the Places That Mean the Most

When asked to describe her style, Isabella says it’s “versatile, simple, and neutral.” This sense of style can be seen in the locations she chose for her graduation photoshoot! Her first location was The Rock, USM’s football stadium, where she performed as a Dixie Darling. The second was the iconic Trent Lott Center, with its beautiful white columns and gold doors, symbolizing simplicity and beauty. Finally, she chose the USM library, to reflect her love for education and the resources she utilized throughout her college journey.

As for special items she brought to the shoot, Isabella brought her cap and gown, along with her cords, which signify the hard work she put into her college experience. Her honors cord, Lambda Pi Eta honor society cord, and Pathways Experience cord (for completing three internships) all serve as reminders of the dedication she put into her academic and professional growth.

A New Chapter Begins

As Isabella looks to the future, she does so with excitement, faith, and a sense of purpose. She is ready to face the challenges ahead, embrace new opportunities, and continue growing into the person she is meant to become. Her journey at USM may be coming to an end, but the story is just beginning. To Isabella Strong, the world is waiting – and she’s ready to take it on one step at a time.
